Between 1987 and 1990, the M3 was available in several versions for both European and American markets. It distinguished itself from the standard E30 with its 12 unique panels, a rear window with a more aerodynamic profile, widened wheel arches to accommodate a wider track and wider wheels, improved suspension, and special brakes with a revised master cylinder.
The example we present here was delivered to Switzerland in September 1988, devoid of options (making it a small CS) and dressed in Lachssilber metallic. Imported to France in 2015, it was then completely restored by the new owner. The car is in excellent cosmetic and mechanical condition. Under the hood, we find the fabulous 16-valve 2.3L S14 four-cylinder engine.
It is equipped, among other things, with four Bilstein B8 shock absorbers, HR combined threaded springs, as well as rare 18-inch OZ magnesium wheels.
In 1983, the Brabham powered by a BMW engine allowed Nelson Piquet to win the Formula 1 championship. At that time, the CEO of BMW asked Paul Rosche, the engine designer, to create a sporty version for the 3 Series, which gave birth to the legendary four-cylinder engine of the M3.
To homologate this car for Group A touring car racing, BMW produced the famous E30, which had great success on the track thanks to teams such as Prodrive and Schnitzer, in addition to BMW itself.
On the transmission side, we find the dogleg reverse gearshift, as well as a shorter limited-slip differential in order to fully enjoy the high engine revs.
Inside, we have the Sport Evolution equipment, such as the mtech2 steering wheel, Sport Evo handbrake, and Recaro bucket seats.
The DTM exhaust, exhaust manifold, spoiler, and wing are also taken from the Sport Evo.
The original 15-inch BBS wheels, differential, suspension, steering wheel, and wing are of course available.
A complete file on the restoration of the car is included.
